Yesterday's ice showers were a distant memory with the sun-soaked hint of summer on Kelowna's downtown waterfront this afternoon. Busker Eldon Blanchard came out from Winfield to set up his speakers and strum country tunes with fellow guitarist Roberto Rivera.

"We just started last week," he says. "We'll be here pretty well every afternoon Wednesday to Saturday."

Blanchard, who's busked from Nashville to Calgary, says he's getting a decent audience for a Wednesday afternoon.

"I'm playing rythym and Roberto's playing lead," he says.

Cultural life on the lakefront is still a bit quiet as construction on the new downtown pier moves forward. A new structure now stands at what will be the pier's entrance, for a kiosk and ticket booth.

For now Blanchard and Rivera have few acts to compete with, enjoying the full attention of passersby.

"We've pretty well got this corner I think," Blanchard says.
