Residents in flood ravaged Alberta town prepare to return to their homes
HIGH RIVER, Alta. – A long line of evacuees are waiting outside a High River, Alta registration centre to get the all clear to go home.
About 5,000 people will be allowed to return home for the first time since the Highwood River burst over its banks
A mandatory evacuation was imposed for the entire town as parts of the community were turned into a raging river.
The lineups started a couple of hours before the office was open.
The number of vehicles stretched out a kilometre down the highway.
Many residents say they’re already aware of the damage to their homes but just want to get back to their regular lives.
