Quebec government recalls legislature to introduce back to work legislation

QUEBEC – The Quebec government is planning to introduce back-to-work legislation today to put an end to the province’s two-week long construction strike.

The government has reconvened the legislature from its summer break for a special sitting in Quebec City.

Some 77,000 construction workers in the industrial, institutional and commercial construction sectors have been on strike since June 17.

Workers in other sectors were able to reach deals last week but a deal has eluded the construction workers.

If the special law passes, striking workers would have to be back on the job by Tuesday.
