Wildfire prompts evacuation alert near Lillooet, B.C.

LILLOOET, B.C. – A wildfire burning north of Vancouver has prompted an evacuation alert for several residents amid concerns that high winds could cause the flames to spread.

The evacuation alert affects between five and 10 people southwest of the community of Seton Portage, located more than 200 kilometres northeast of Vancouver near Lillooet.

The province’s wildfire management branch says the fire is currently one hectare in size, though high winds in the forecast could cause the fire to grow.

The evacuation alert affects a radius of roughly 20 kilometres.

The province currently has nine firefighters, two helicopters and two air tankers fighting the fire.

Meanwhile, a fire officials say they’ve fully contained a blaze near Vinsulla, north of Kamloops, which had grown to 15 hectares but didn’t threaten any buildings.
