Australia to play Canada in football friendly at London’s Craven Cottage

SYDNEY – Canada will play Australia in a friendly at London’s Craven Cottage, home of Premier League side Fulham, on Oct. 15.

“It is important to play as many international matches as possible in the lead-up to the World Cup,” saidHolger Osieck, Canada’s former head coach who now leads the Australian team.

The Australians, who qualified for the 2014 World Cup in June from the Asian Confederation, will be coming off a match against France in Paris on Oct. 11.

Australia was thrashed 6-0 by Brazil in Brasilia earlier this month.

Canada did not qualify for the World Cup and has begun a rebuilding program under new coach and former Real Madrid manager Benito Floro.

Australia has won its two most recent matches with Canada — during qualifying in 1993 for the 1994 World Cup.
