New Victoria police chief, Frank Elsner, heads west from Greater Sudbury

VICTORIA – Victoria’s new Chief Constable has been confirmed and he’s coming west from Ontario.

Greater Sudbury Police Chief Frank Elsner takes over from retiring Victoria Chief Jamie Graham on Dec. 31.

Elsner was selected following a nationwide recruitment effort.

He comes to the job after four years at the helm of Sudbury’s police service, responsible for a population base about half the size of Greater Victoria.

Police Board Vice Chair and Esquimalt Mayor Barbara Desjardins says the choice of Elsner was unanimous by board members from both Victoria and neighbouring Esquimalt.

Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin praises the new chief saying he has an impressive policing career and a leadership approach that is built on open communication and community involvement.
