US judge rejects motion to dismiss lawsuit filed over plane crash that killed singer Rivera
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A judge says a lawsuit filed by the relatives of four people who were killed in a plane crash along with singer Jenni Rivera should be heard in California.
Los Angeles Superior Court Holly Kendig rejected a motion Thursday by Starwood Management Inc., the operators of the Learjet, calling for the case to be dismissed in the state and heard in Mexico.
Rivera, a Mexican-American musician, and six other people were killed Dec. 9 when the Learjet 25 crashed in northern Mexico.
Her company, Jenni Rivera Enterprises Inc., is also being sued and objected to any effort to have the case heard in Mexico.
A lawyer for Starwood declined comment after the hearing.
