A member of the Kelowna Rockets' team cohort has tested positive for COVID-19.

A news release from the WHL is scarce on specifics, but says another member of the Rockets' cohort was a close contact of the person who tested positive, and both people have entered into self isolation.

But despite the positive test, the league says no regular season games involving the Rockets have to be rescheduled.

"Due to the fact the positive test result for COVID-19 was discovered during the initial return to play testing phase for the Kelowna Rockets and prior to the club beginning team activities, other members of the team cohort are permitted to continue on the original timeline associated with their return to play," the WHL news release says.

No information on the identity of those involved in the positive test result will be released, the WHL says.

The team's first game of the season is set for March 26 against the Victoria Royals at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Rockets president and G.M. Bruce Hamilton told iNFOnews.ca shortly after the league announced the B.C. division would resume play that he was hopeful the players would take care with COVID-19 measures.

"The most important thing is we've going through the whole procedure of being safe and now the players are going through the quarantine period, which is a commitment back on their shoulders as they're got to follow the line too," Hamilton told iNFOnews on March 9.

"The success of being able to play the whole 24 games will ride on their shoulders… if they look after themselves."
