It’s time once again for Earth Hour

It might be the 14th annual Earth Hour but this year you're invited to participate in the first ever Earth Hour Virtual Spotlight.

The annual event, which began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, encourages people to take part by turning off the lights for an hour tonight at 8:30 p.m. local time.

The ‘Virtual Spotlight’ is intended to draw attention to the environment online in a way similar to what the hour of darkness has done to city streets and skylines.

Earth hour organizers are encouraging people to view a ‘must watch’ video that will be posted to social media pages on tonight.

They are asking participants to share the video as many times as possible with a goal to making it the most-watched video in the world on March 27.

The video contents are not being revealed ahead of Saturday night.

Earth Hour calls 2021 "the year that counts" as world leaders come together to set an environmental agenda for the next decade.

The event is staged annually to raise environmental awareness on the last Saturday in March.
