Canada to return from World Cup with home friendlies against Chile, Peru

TORONTO — The Canadian men’s soccer team will return from its run to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup with matches against Chile and Peru this fall.

Canada Soccer announced Wednesday that the Canadians will host Chile at BMO Field in Toronto on Sept. 26 and Peru at Montreal’s Stade Saputo on Oct. 3.

Canada played both teams in the group stage of the 2024 Copa America, defeating Peru 1-0 and drawing Chile 0-0.

The match in Toronto will mark Canada’s return to BMO Field after earning its first-ever World Cup point in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 9.

Canada went on to defeat Qatar 6-0 and lose 2-1 to Switzerland at Vancouver’s BC Place, advancing out of Group B in second place.

The Canadians won their first-ever knockout match with a 1-0 win over South Africa in a round of 32 match in Los Angeles before falling 3-0 to Morocco in Houston.

“The momentum we’ve created for this sport in the country over the past few months has been incredible,” Canada head coach Jesse Marsch said in a statement. “We couldn’t have done it without our fans, and these matches are a chance to say thank you and continue to build on what we achieved at the World Cup. We hope to see Canadians celebrate this team with a hero’s welcome and show up in numbers this fall.”
