B.C. begins registering vaccinations for people as young as 40 next week

B.C. residents as young as age 40 will soon be able to register to get their COVID-19 vaccine but when they'll actually get the shot isn't yet known.

The province is still vaccinating residents over age 65 under the province's age-based vaccination program but another 1.3 million residents can register on the following schedule: 

• Monday, April 12 – registration opens for people aged 55 and up
• Wednesday, April 14 – registration opens for people aged 50 and up
• Friday, April 16 – registration opens for people aged 45 and up
• Monday, April 19 – registration opens for people aged 40 and up
• Everyone else aged 60 or over, plus Indigenous people over age 18 and people designated as having extreme vulnerabilities are already able to register. 

The best way to register is online here or call 1-833-838-2323. You'll need your personal health number (found on your CareCard or on the back of your driver's licence or B.C. Services Card), postal code, first and last name, date of birth and an email address that gets checked regularly or a phone number that can receive text messages to register. Once registered, you will be contacted when it's time to get the jab. 

Anyone between ages 55-65 may also visit a participating pharmacy for the AstraZeneca vaccine. A release from the Ministry of Health says this is the fastest way for that age demographic to get the vaccine. 

More than 1 million British Columbians have gotten their first dose and another 200,000 have booked their vaccination.
