Vernon police launch investigation after woman found dead in basement

Vernon RCMP are asking the public for information after a woman’s death was deemed suspicious.

Tanya Lemecha, also known as Tanya Thomaser, 54, was found dead in her basement suite on 24 Avenue on Aug. 24, according to a press release from police.

“We believe she recently moved back to Vernon in May of this year and are interested in speaking with anyone who had interactions with her in the time leading up to her death,” Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.

The Serious Crimes Unit is investigating her death and suspects that criminality is involved, but it hasn’t been declared a homicide investigation.

Anyone with information, or who had contact with Lemecha, has been asked to contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.
