One of two men charged after a seven-year Kamloops RCMP murder investigation is already behind bars for killing another man.

Hugh Alexander McIntosh, 58, is facing another second-degree murder charge, this time in a case where a man may have been mistakenly targeted outside a Kamloops hotel in January 2019.

Police have now linked him to three homicides in a one-month span during a time of heightened gang violence in Kamloops.

Already behind bars, he was convicted for shooting two people over a $12,000 drug debt, killing a man and injuring a woman in February 2019. McIntosh isn’t expected to reach parole eligibility for another 15 years.

He is now charged alongside co-accused Brandon Dale Fiddick in the shooting death of Rex Gill, who was the second person shot and killed in Kamloops that day.

Investigators still believe the killings are linked, but the men are only charged in relation to Gill’s death, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

The other, Cody Mathieu, was known to police and had links to local gang activity. Weeks after their deaths, police said Gill may have been mistakenly killed.

Fiddick, 34, also has a lengthy court record with charges related to robberies, firearms and drugs.

Now in custody, he is expected to next appear in court in October.

It’s not clear when McIntosh is scheduled to appear next.
