Fire and Wine wins $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes at Woodbine
TORONTO — Fire and Wine won Sunday’s $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes, the final jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown at Woodbine.
Fire Wine scored by four lengths in a final time of two minutes 30.57 seconds.
Bond Market rallied to finish second, while Buium was third. Imyourmedicineman rounded out the superfecta and the favoured Katie’s Grace was fifth.
The field of six broke smoothly in the 1 1/2-mile turf route for three-year-olds foaled in Canada. Fire and Wine secured the lead early under jockey Jalon Samuel.
Still on top through ten furlongs in 2:05.90, Fire and Wire was under siege, but the bay colt kicked away again to secure the win.
In 2026, and with Samuel up for the first time, Fire and Wire finished third in the King’s Plate and dueled up front in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, before finishing fifth.
