Five year sentence for man after stepson found dead

A stepfather arrested in Osoyoos last week faces five years in prison from two convictions made in connection to the death of his stepson in 2000.

Lloyd Cook was sentenced in a Prince George courtroom on Tuesday. He will serve five years in a federal prison and be given 30 days credit for time already served. For unlawful confinement he got three years in prison and for interference with a dead body he got two years in prison, says Neil MacKenzie, Crown spokesperson.

Cook's arrest at an Osoyoos residence last week was made after he failed to show up on Jan. 31 for the verdict in his manslaughter trial.

Earlier, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett found Cook not guilty of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death. The justice later found him guilty on the charges of confinement and interference.
