Defending champion Forever Young opens as the 2-1 favorite in a stacked Breeders’ Cup Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Defending champion Forever Young opened as the 2-1 morning line favorite in a stacked field for the Breeders’ Cup Classic this weekend.

Post positions were drawn Monday for the 14 world championship races Friday and Saturday at Keeneland.

Forever Young has won two of his three races as a 5-year-old and is coming off romping in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on Sept. 18. Trainer Yoshito Yahagi at the time said he was only half-satisfied with the performance of Forever Young, the pride of Japan who beat 2024 Breeders’ Cup champion Sierra Leone in the Classic last year.

Sovereignty, who won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes last year, is the next choice at 5-2 for the $7 million Classic on Saturday. Golden Tempo, who won the Derby and Belmont this year, is 5-1, while reigning Preakness champion Napoleon Solo is 15-1.

Knightsbridge is 9-2, Magnitude 6-1, The Puma 10-1 and T O Password 30-1. Forever Young and T O Password make it a quarter of the field from Japan.
