BC Conservatives name candidate for Kamloops South Thompson riding

Kamloops-area members of the BC Conservatives made their vote count yesterday in deciding which candidate will run in the Kamloops South Thompson riding at the May 14 provincial election.

In the end Peter Sharp beat out Maria Dobi – who ran for the BC Conservatives in the 2009 election – at the nomination meeting and was named as the official conservative candidate for one of the two ridings that include part of Kamloops.

Sharp, a former Kamloops city councillor and retired RCMP officer, will be running against Todd Stone – who was named as the BC Liberal candidate following current MLA Kevin Krueger decision to step down – and NDP candidate Tom Friedman, who also ran in the last election.

In the Kamloops North Thompson riding Liberal MLA Terry Lake and NDP candidate Kathy Kendall have both announced their intentions to run while the BC Conservatives plan on announcing a candidate within the next week.

The Fraser Nicola riding has also only seen incumbent Harry Lali, NDP, and Jackie Tegart for the Liberal party step up to the plate while the Shuswap riding currently has Liberal MLA George Abbott retiring and Greg Kyllo set to run in his place. Also running in Shuswap are BC Conservative candidate Tom Birch, NDP candidate Steve Gunner and Green Party's Chris George.
