Senators’ Lazar enjoys a post game snack courtesy of former Vernon Viper ‘The Hamburgler’
OKANAGAN – Two Okanagan junior hockey products and Ottawa Senators are enjoying a symbiotic relationship on the ice.
Senators' fans have taken to throwing hamburgers on the ice in celebration of former Vernon Viper goaltender Andrew Hammond who has been nicknamed the Hamburgler for stealing goals from the opposition.
On Thursday, March 19, the Senators downed the Boston Bruins 6-4 and the hamburgers starting flying.
Okanagan Hockey Academy alumni, Senator’s forward Curtis Lazar, grabbed one of the burgers for a post game snack on his way off the ice.

Hammond was cut from the West Kelowna Warriors in 2006-07 season after playing just one game. He played for the BCHL Vernon Vipers for two seasons, including 2008-09 when the Snakes won the Royal Bank Cup, the national Junior ‘A’ championship.
