One arrested after assault with box cutter at Kamloops shelter

Knives and blood were seen when Kamloops RCMP received a report of a fight at a shelter on Victoria Street West yesterday night.

Multiple officers converged on the Emerald Centre around 8:10 p.m., where the suspect failed to cooperate with the orders and fled.

“Based on the risk assessment of a weapon being involved and the suspect failing to comply with repeated police officer commands, the officers deployed (pepper) spray and a conductive energy device, but both were unsuccessful,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “Eventually, police were able to apprehend the suspect, seize a box cutter, and transport him to cells.”

Police said two or three people were reported to be involved in the fight, while just one other person involved was found to be injured, but they were non-life-threatening.

The injured man was uncooperative with police and both the victim and the suspect were known to each other, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with related information can contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
