Members of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service responded to a made-in-Canada call this morning in Penticton, where a deer found itself in distress because an entire hockey net was tangled in its antlers.

Several calls came in from the public about the struggling deer on Windsor Avenue, according to Sgt. James Zucchelli of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.

An officer attended the area this morning, Feb. 4, and was able to dislodge the hockey net’s metal frame from the antlers.

“The netting is still wrapped up in the antlers however it is not impeding the deer’s ability to move or eat,” Zucchelli said in an email.

“The antlers will be naturally shed in the next few weeks and there is currently no need for the B.C. Conservation Officer Services to intervene.”

He added that the deer is now fully mobile and not in distress.
