Open burning a sign of spring in Okanagan

KELOWNA – It’s been a good year for open burning in the Okanagan this spring.

The Regional District of the Central Okanagan has managed to get a big chunk of their controlled burning done in parks throughout the region.

There have been a lot of days with good air quality and venting, so crews have been able to light fires and burn the debris collected as part of the large wildfire fuel modification projects underway.

This weekend, regional district crews have been focusing their efforts on a 20-hectare section of Stephens Coyote Ridge Regional Park and 9-hectares in Coldham Regional Park.

Crews have also been working in Scenic Canyon Regional Park over the last month or so.

Property owners are also allowed to burn if they have the proper permits from their local fire department.
