The District of West Kelowna is figuring out how they want to handle legal grow operations, with regulation changes coming from Health Canada.
Council directed staff to forward a prepared summary of potential gaps in the proposed Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations to Health Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities before February 28, 2013.
Health Canada is intending to repeal and replace the existing regulations with the MMPR through a phased approach. District staff provided council with an analysis of the proposed regulations and identified areas where there may be impacts on local governments.
Council in Kamloops held a public hearing in January regarding medical marijuana grow-op zoning in anticipation of the changes by Health Canada.
