More people told to evacuate as South Okanagan wildfire threatens

A new evacuation order has been issued this afternoon for properties along Highway 3A.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen said roughly 40 properties must be evacuated on the west side of Highway 3A in Ollala and to the south of Ollala due to the threat of the Keremeos Creek Wildfire.

Those under an evacuation order are being asked to check in at the reception centre set up in Penticton at Princess Margaret Secondary at 120 Green Ave. They can also register online.

The regional district is asking residents to stay with friends and family if possible due to a shortage of hotel and commercial accommodations.

The Keremeos Creek Wildfire is currently mapped at 4,250 ha but this number has not accounted for growth in the last night, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. It is roughly 21 km southwest of Penticton.
