Thompson Okanagan’s largest wildfire now being held

One of this season's largest wildfires burning in the Thompson Okanagan region is now being held.

The news comes nearly one month after the fire, located 21 kilometres southwest of Penticton, was first discovered, July 29.

“At this stage, the wildfire will not likely spread beyond predetermined boundaries under forecast conditions,” the B.C. Wildfire Service announced on Facebook this afternoon, Aug. 26.

The wildfire caused hundreds of people to evacuate earlier this year including the entire Apex Mountain resort and village. Final evacuation orders were rescinded last week.

It is currently considered to be the only "wildfire of note," a title given by the wildfire service to fires that are highly visible and threaten property, in the Thompson Okanagan region.

“Wild land firefighting crews continue to patrol control lines, conduct fuel management activities and mop-up,” according to the service.

The Keremeos Creek wildfire is estimated to be roughly 7,018 hectares in size.
