A late-season wildfire sparked near West Kelowna yesterday has grown tenfold.

The Esperon Lake wildfire, roughly 26 kilometres northwest of West Kelowna, was initially reported to be five hectares and as of today, Oct. 20, is now 54 h in size, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

There are 10 firefighters working the blaze today, according to wildfire service fire information officer Nicole Bonnett.

A helicopter is providing aerial support with a piece of heavy equipment and a line locator are en route.

"It's a bit challenging for crews to get in there right now," Bonnett said.

There's another wildfire burning on the westside of Okanagan Lake near Hayman Creek, which is even closer to West Kelowna, although it's only 2.04 hectares. There is a crew working the fire today.

Both fires are suspected to be human-caused.
