UPDATE: Cause of downtown Vernon house fire not suspicious
VERNON – No one was hurt as fire gutted a house in downtown Vernon Saturday morning.
Neighbours spotted the smoke and called 911 at about 10:30 a.m.
Crews arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from the home near the corner of 35 Street and 28 Avenue.
At one point a large area of downtown was full of smoke.
Firefighters did a quick attack because there were reports people were inside. No one was found.
Witnesses saw 4 people leaving the house, but deputy fire chief Jack Blair isn't sure why they didn't remain at the scene. The house is known to RCMP.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, although Blair adds it isn't suspicious.
