Westside board of trade computers hacked, warns clients not to open emails
WEST KELOWNA – The Greater Westside Board of Trade says its computers have been hacked and its email contact list compromised.
The board sent out an emergency email today urging people not to open attachments or zip files from any emails people may have received from the business promotion organization. The email apologized for the "grave inconvenience".
An unidentified staff person, who said she did not have authority to speak to the media, confirmed the existence of a virus and said the problem has since been fixed.
“We were sent an email that had some sort of document, with some sort of virus,” she says. “It just sent emails to our contact list but it’s clean now and we’re not going to have any issues.”
The staff person says a follow-up email would be sent out informing clients the problem had been solved.
