Thieves steal $100,000 worth of computers from Kamloops store

KAMLOOPS – In what the manager of Simply Computing in the Sahali Mall describes as something out of the movies, thieves broke into his store and stole iPads and MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs overnight.

Regan Hayes says he figures they took between $50,000 to $100,000 worth of electronics out of his storage room. He’s still going over his inventory.

He thinks he’s been victimized by professional thieves given the sophistication of the break-in.

They climbed up on the roof and broke a window to get into the mezzanine level of the mall, he says.

“It’s the old administration offices above us which aren’t used and aren’t alarmed,” Hayes says. “They cut through six inches of concrete and steel above our store.”

When they came through the hole they were still above the alarmed section of the store, so crawled through ductwork to get to the storage room, the only part of the store without alarm sensors, he says.

“They knew what they were doing.”

Hayes says he gave the RCMP surveillance video to help with the investigation.
