VIDEO: Car on fire halts highway traffic near Armstrong

ARMSTRONG – A vehicle on fire in the middle of Highway 97 A near Armstrong tied up traffic for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, just north of Eagle Rock Road, about 1:30 p.m. April 22. Fire chief Ian Cummings says a Volkswagen was completely engulfed on the meridian when they arrived with flames 20-30 feet in the air. A second vehicle involved in the accident was some distance away.

Police had the highway blocked off in both directions while firefighters tackled the blaze. According to Drive B.C., the highway reopened around 2:45 p.m.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says there is no report of injuries or word on what led to the accident itself.

The fire department responded with three fire engines and nine members. B.C. Ambulance was also on scene.
