KAMLOOPS – A deer crossing the TransCanada Highway at the east end of Kamloops this morning caused a pair of crashes.

RCMP say shortly after 9 a.m., April 23, a deer ran into traffic east of the Kokanee Way exit and was hit by a westbound vehicle. The driver wasn't hurt and was able to pull over to the shoulder. The deer died as a result of the collision.

"Within minutes another westbound vehicle collided with the deer that was situated on highway," RCMP say in a release.

The driver of the westbound vehicle swerved to miss the deer but hit it. The vehicle rolled five times before coming to rest on the median. The driver and passenger weren't badly hurt and taken to hospital as a precaution.

RCMP warn drivers to be wary of deer and other animals on the highway.
