Band fire crews get blaze under control
A one-hectare fire on Penticton Indian Band land is now under control.
Band fire chief Barry Phillips said six of his firefighters went to the intersection of Sage Road and Westhill Road where a grass fire was burning. A three-person B.C. Wildfire crew attended.
Phillips said the fire was one hectare in size when they started attacking it and it was not the result of an out-of-control prescribed burn. No one was present at the scene when firefighters arrived. There were still a few hot-spots as of 7:30 p.m. and there has been no property damage or anyone injured.
B.C. Wildfire spokesperson Michaela Swan said the Penticton area is under a high danger rating for fires.
