April 28, 2026 at 6:00 PM - 7:30 PMKamloops Kia Lounge in the Sandman Centre300 Lorne Street, Kamloops, British Columbia The Kamloops & District Labour Council will observe the 2026 National Day of Mourning on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00 pm at the Kia Lounge in the Sandman Centre in Kamloops. Each year on April 28, workers, families, unions, and community members come together to remember those who have been killed, injured, or made ill because of workplace incidents and occupational disease. The National Day of Mourning is also a time to renew our shared commitment to safer workplaces and to the protection of all workers. Last year’s ceremony was held at Pleasant Street Cemetery due to the fire at our usual venue, St. Andrews on the Square. As that venue remains unavailable this year, the 2026 event will instead be held at the Kia Lounge in the Sandman Centre. The Kamloops & District Labour Council invites workers, affiliates, families, and members of the public to join us as we remember those we have lost and reflect on the ongoing importance of health and safety in every workplace.

The Kamloops & District Labour Council (KDLC) represents approximately 13,000 unionized workers from Merritt to Valemount and Chase to Lillooet. Affiliated with the BC Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress, it promotes social justice, human rights, and workers’ rights through community outreach, political endorsements, and events. Mission: Advocates for the economic and social welfare of workers and supports progressive community initiatives.
Venue
A versatile sports and entertainment venue with a seating capacity of about 6,400 and nearly 20,000 square feet of exhibition space. It’s the home of the Kamloops Blazers WHL hockey team and hosts a wide range of events, including trade shows, sporting events, conventions, and concerts. Located near downtown and Riverside Park, it’s a central hub for community events in Kamloops.
