2nd Annual Every Child Matters Hockey Game & Event

The inaugural event was held in Williams Lake in 2023 to encourage awareness and action for truth and reconciliation through sport. This family-oriented, catalyst event brought together residential school survivors, band and community officials, indigenous and non-indigenous spectators, and an array of sporting celebrities under one roof to cheer as one watching a celebrity-style hockey game between ex-NHL/WHL/high-level players and an esteemed Orange Jersey Project team.
The expanded 2024 event will include a pancake breakfast, community powwow, bouncy castles, autograph signing (featuring Phyllis (Jack) Webstad – founder of the Orange Shirt Society), an action-packed evening hockey game, and energizing indigenous entertainment (featuring Jordan Hart, Susan Aglukark, and Halluci Nation).
Truth and reconciliation can be achieved through dialogue, interaction, and education. Our mission is to create awareness of the intergenerational impacts of Indian Residential Schools.
SCHEDULE:
all events will be held in or around the Sandman Centre
Pancake Breakfast: 9am-10am (while supplies last) (Kia Lounge)
Bouncy Castle & Face Painting: 10am-1pm (Grass area adjacent upper north parking lot)
Pow Wow: 10am-4pm (outside Kia Lounge)
Autograph Session: 1pm-2pm (Kia Lounge)
Public Skate: 2pm-3pm (Sandman Centre Ice)
Hockey Game: 6pm (Sandman Centre Ice)
