Arts on the Avenue

Arts on the Avenue
Arts on the Avenue, downtown Kelowna’s annual visual arts celebration, will have people seeing double this summer as it returns to Bernard Avenue not once, but twice. Newly presented by Chances Casino Kelowna, Arts on the Avenue will take place on Bernard Avenue July 16th and August 1st from 3:00 to 9:00 pm.
Arts on the Avenue is a free outdoor visual arts-focused event held along the sidewalks and roadway of Bernard Avenue from Abbott Street at The Sails to Water Street. Started in 2015, this adult-oriented celebration of “all things visual art” will feature a curated marketplace of Okanagan and B.C. artists, live art demonstrations, and eclectic performances at two “Entertainment Pods”.
“We are so pleased to welcome Chances Casino Kelowna as our new Presenting Partner on this great event,” enthuses Renata Mills, Executive Director of Festivals Kelowna”. “The fact that a local stalwart in the business community like Chances is willing to invest in creating accessible and unique art experiences for our residents and visitors, speaks volumes about the positive impact arts and culture has on our city”.
More than a “market”, Arts on the Avenue offers unique opportunities to connect with professional visual artists and participate in free arts creation experiences such as group mural painting, weaving a fabric wall, silk scarf colouring, and take-home painting and crafting projects. Art creation demonstrations will include cyanotype print making by Opus Art Supplies, painting with the Kelowna Arts Council, jewellery making by Kelowna Fashion Week producers AesthetiKs LAB, live metal work by Ti Amo’s Workshop, and art information and demonstrations by the Eagle Valley Arts Council from Sicamous, the Kelowna Museums, and the Kelowna Calligraphers Guild.
“People should come prepared to buy art and experience all kinds of visual arts,” explains Saturday Sazaran, the event’s Producer. “This is a great chance to start some early Christmas shopping or to buy a one-of-a- kind gift for a special occasion. We’ll also have live musical performances throughout the day and night so plan to spend a few hours with us.”
Further details about the festival can be found on facebook on the Arts on the Avenue page. A list of participating artists with links to their websites can be found on the “Arts on the Avenue” page at the Festivals Kelowna website.
