Essence of Dzogchen Meditation Teachings: The Three Words of Garab Dorje, with Lama Lena (Yeshe Katyup)According to Tibetan Buddhist tradtition, Dzogchen, or Ati Yoga, is the culmination of the path and the instructions point to the primordial, open, and natural state of the mind. Dzogchen, the Great Perfection, the Great Freedom, are extraordinary teachings, pointing out instructions, and meditation practices, which facilitate the realization of our innate luminous awareness. Three Words of Garab Dorje:Garab Dorjes is the first master of the Dzogchen/Great Perfection lineage. His final teachings, Three Words that Strike the Vital Point, consist of pith instructions that offer clear guidance on recognizing the minds innate purity and making this recognition a living experience. To work with this teaching one first needs transmission from a realized master in the form of an introduction or pointing to the state of presence and awareness (rigpa), which is the capacity of the nature of mind. This introduction is offered within these teachings by Lama Lena. After each session Lama Lena will ask people to go away and practice what they are being taught, returning for the next part of the instruction. Lama Lena welcomes questions and is very welcoming to those new to the practice. Please note at the end of each of the 4 sessions there will be an opportunity to give a dana offering directly to the Lama while offering a white scarf and receiving blessings. If one attends more than one session one offers the scarf at the last session one attends. There will be a dana bowl out for travel expenses – please support Lama Lena coming to this community. There will be a separate dana bowl for expenses of space rental, other costs associated with hosting the teaching, and to support activity of the local dharma community. Lama Lena (Yeseh Katyup) is a teacher of Direct Mind Perception and a lineage holder of several Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Her informal style is precise, direct and she is revered by students around the world for her exceptional ability to share profound teaching in a clear, poetic and humorous way. Beginning in 1972, Lama Lena spent three years studying with Lama Thubten Yeshe in Nepal. She then spent seven years in a small cave practice retreat above Tso Pema under the tutelage of her root teacher, Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche. She travelled extensively with him for many years as his translator and assistant. At the request of H.E. Zigar Choktrul Rimpoche and Ven. Wangdor Rimpoche, as well as many Tibetan and Western Dharma students, she continues to travel and teach from the lineages she holds. With the death of her beloved teacher in September of 2019, Lama Lena now continues to travel the world, in her great compassion, sharing the blessings of lineage and the precious liberation teachings that she has received and holds. We are very grateful that she has included Kelowna in her 2020 teaching schedule.
