Field Journaling the Exotics Among Us with Lyn BaldwinAbout this eventField Journaling the Exotics Among Us with Lyn BaldwinIn North America, botanists normally define exotic plant species as those species not present at the time of European colonization. In British Columbia, such plant species now represent more than 20% of the species occurring within our province. Some are harmful, negatively impacting native diversity. Others are more benign, inhabiting disturbed environments where few native species could survive. Still, others beautify our urban landscape in planters and park beds. All matter. Join botanist and artist Lyn Baldwin for a drawing exploration of the exotics among us. We’ll begin by mapping the density of their colours in downtown Kamloops, identifying which ones we notice and which ones we ignore before using simple journal exercises to learn more about their urban ecology. No drawing experience is necessary. Happening June 4th from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Cost $12. Location: Heritage House, 100 Lorne St, Kamloops, BC
