Jake Soberlak and Friends

Description
This week, the Jazz Club dives into the origins of jazz with a performance by up and coming young blues star, Jake Soberlak.
Jake is a 17-year-old blues guitarist, harmonica player, singer, and songwriter from Kamloops who has quickly risen to prominence as one of Canada's most compelling young musical talents. Raised in a musical household, he began his journey by learning guitar from his father at age 13 and adding the harmonica a year later.
His profound passion for the genre was truly ignited when he discovered his grandfather’s vintage record collection, diving deep into the music of legends like B.B. King, Peter Green, and Eric Clapton. Known for an "old soul" performance style, Soberlak plays with a raw authenticity and emotional depth that critics note typically takes decades to master.
He recorded his highly anticipated debut album, I'm In Trouble, live-off-the-floor alongside a seasoned band at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, was released on September 11, 2026 and is available online or at the show.
For this performance, Jake is joined by long time mentor and friend, Jake Verburg (guitar) and Brian Pratt-Johnson (drums), as well as others yet to be formally announced.
Organizer
Salmon Arm Jazz Club
We are a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to hosting jazz performances by local and visiting artists. In operation since 2009, the Jazz Club currently hosts bi-monthly shows from September through June.
Venue
Almost a decade ago, First Community embarked upon a journey to enrich connections within our community through the creation of The Nexus. With the help of local volunteers, the traditional church sanctuary was converted into a versatile community performance space with wonderfully bright acoustics, a 1000 square foot stage and comfortable, raked seating for up to 325 patrons. The Nexus at First is proud to host such groups as the Salmon Arm Jazz Club, the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Roots and Blues and many others on an ongoing basis. Feedback from performers and audiences alike has been spectacular. We encourage you to forge new connections through the exploration of performance, and to join us at any of the upcoming events. We look forward to seeing you at The Nexus at First! “We could not have had a more successful fundraiser for Johnny. Thank you so much for the amazing space!” AJ“Thank you for the set up yesterday. The concert went well and we were complimented on the sound in your venue.” Ancora Ensemble
