T?he Mental Health First Aid Standard Course is a 9 hour course split into 2 hours of self-directed online learning, and 7 hours in the classroom.
Course participants will learn how to:
Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis
Have conversations that encourage a person to talk about declines in their mental well-being, discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being, and reach out to these supports
Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-bein
Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being
Course participants are required to complete Module 1 online at least 24 hours before participating in Module 2 and 3 in person. P?articipants will need a valid email address and internet access to complete Module 1 before the in-person class.
Upon registration, participants will receive an email with login information to access Module1. The online learning system will allow the student to access the “MHFA Participant Reference Guide” (in PDF form, or to purchase a copy from MHCC) that outlines MHFA actions for developing mental health and substance use problems, and mental health and substance use crises. This textbook is suggested but not required for the in-person class.
