Peach City Radio, CFUZ, is gearing up for their 11th annual Okanagan Vinyl Festival. In preparation, they are holding a vinyl and audio equipment donation drive on Saturday, August 17th, between 9:00 am and noon at the Cannery Trade Centre parking lot, on the corner of Fairview Road and Duncan Avenue. The annual Okanagan Vinyl Festival is a key fundraiser for the totally volunteer-run community radio station.
CFUZ is looking for donations of rock, pop, soul, and jazz vinyl records as well as donations of good quality audio equipment, in working order. These items will be tested by CFUZ volunteers prior to being sold at Okanagan Vinyl Fest, which will take place on Sunday, September 22nd, at the Penticton campus of Okanagan College.
“This is a great opportunity to support community radio while freeing up some space in your place! Your old albums and audio gear will go to new homes where they will be appreciated, and much-needed funds will go to supporting Penticton’s 100% volunteer-run community radio station,” said Peach City Radio president, Claire Thompson.
Long-time station volunteer and music director Ian Mackinder has been a key organizer of Okanagan Vinyl Fest from the very beginning. “It’s always interesting to sort through the donated albums; each donor’s collection serves as a bit of a time capsule. We receive a lot of top 40 albums from over the decades as well as rare pressings, quirky bands, and some interesting local albums.”
Currently, CFUZ is in the middle of a station expansion project, and money raised through Okanagan Vinyl Festival will help move the project along.
“Construction of two new studios is almost complete. The next stage in our expansion will involve finishing installation of the HVAC system and building a meeting room as well as a dedicated space for our transmitter,” said CFUZ technology director Nils Finnsson. “These new facilities will allow us to train more volunteers, boosting the amount and quality of locally produced music and spoken word programming for our listeners.”
