Description
The Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Vernon under the Artistic Direction of Andrea Malysh will perform at their annual Ukrainian New Year’s Celebration on January 10th at the Schubert Center. Come for an evening of Ukrainian food, This event features a Ukrainian dinner and dance to the music of the Vic Ukrainian Dance Band from Kelowna.
Malanka is a vibrant Ukrainian folk holiday, essentially a festive, masked New Year's Eve celebration (January 13th, the "Old New Year") blending ancient pagan traditions with Christian elements, featuring costumed characters like old man Winter, Malanka – Spring, is represented by a woman, goats, bears, and gypsies visiting homes with songs, dances, and good wishes to ward off evil and bring prosperity, combining folk theatre with rich cultural symbolism for new beginnings.
