This is a special Wednesday performance, between our regularly scheduled April shows. We are pleased to announce this special Jazz Club performance, featuring a collaboration between Salmon Arm’s own Liam Nadurak (trumpet, piano) and a close colleague from Winnipeg, Sean Irvine (woodwinds). They will be joined by Dan Smith (bass), Jordan Dick (guitar), and Will Friesen (drums). Sean has rapidly gained recognition as a top-tier performer, composer, and woodwind expert. Although his primary focus is on the saxophone, Irvine is also recognized as a flautist, clarinetist, and oboist. Director and Composer of the Sean Irvine 5tet, the ensemble debuted in Spring of 2020. Featuring exclusively original compositions, this project delves into the diverse textures of woodwinds, brass, vocals, and rhythm section instruments, bringing to life the material composed throughout seven years of Irvine's musical journey. Due to release in 2025, Irvine is currently working parallel to the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra for his second album as a leader and composer. Irvine's versatility and skill in capturing the essence and tone of various woodwind instruments have led to collaborations and performances with the likes of Royal Canoe, David Braid, Derrick Gardner, Kiko Freitas, Jon Gordon, Jimmy Greene, and Scotty Barnhart. Salmon Arm Jazz Club
We are a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to hosting jazz performances by local and visiting artists. In operation since 2009, the Jazz Club currently hosts bi-monthly shows from September through June.
Venue
Almost a decade ago, First Community embarked upon a journey to enrich connections within our community through the creation of The Nexus. With the help of local volunteers, the traditional church sanctuary was converted into a versatile community performance space with wonderfully bright acoustics, a 1000 square foot stage and comfortable, raked seating for up to 325 patrons. The Nexus at First is proud to host such groups as the Salmon Arm Jazz Club, the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Roots and Blues and many others on an ongoing basis. Feedback from performers and audiences alike has been spectacular. We encourage you to forge new connections through the exploration of performance, and to join us at any of the upcoming events.
