About the Programme/EventIf you were born in 6000 BC, you would have lived your life without ever learning to read. Unlike speaking, reading is a cultural invention. It is a learned habit and skill that has spurred milestones in the course of history. Yet today, we choose to spend less time on deep reading. Join Maryanne Wolf, author of Reader, Come Home, as she brings you back to reading in a world of screens.About the SpeakerMaryanne Wolf is a scholar, a teacher and an renowned advocate for children, literacy and reading around the world. She is the Director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners and Social Justice at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. In 2018, she published Reader Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World, in which she deeply considers the future of the reading brain and our capacity for critical thinking, empathy and reflection as we become increasingly dependent on digital technologies.About Reading in the Age of DistractionReading in the Age of Distraction is a 5-part conversation featuring acclaimed international thinkers on reading well in the digital age. Speakers include Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows: What the Internet is doing to our Brains, Rolf Dobelli, author of The Art of Thinking Clearly, Alan Rusbridger, former Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian and Maryanne Wolf, author of Reader Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World.
