For nearly 20 years, UBC students have been running with purpose, raising vital funds to support Hope Air, Canada’s only charity dedicated to bridging the gap between home and hospital for Canadians who must travel for medical care. Whether you’re running in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, or participating virtually, every dollar raised helps ensure patients can get where they need to go without the burden of travel costs. Why We’re RunningIn British Columbia, access to medical care often requires travelling long distances, especially for patients living in rural and remote communities. Last year, Hope Air supported over 5,600 patient and caregiver trips from smaller communities to hospital, far from home. We assisted families, individuals and children in over 230 rural or under-served communities with over 21,000 travel arrangements comprised of flights, accommodation, meals and rides. Without this support, many patients would delay or cancel appointments, travel 4 to 12 hours by car or bus, or take on unmanageable debt just to reach a hospital. By running and fundraising, you help remove these barriers and ensure patients can focus on their health, not the cost of getting there. Every kilometer you run helps provide free flights, accommodations, and travel supports, bringing care closer to home for individuals and families across British Columbia when they need it most.
