New rules will allow cannabis to be delivered to B.C. doorsteps starting July 15.<\/p>\n
The change was announced today, June 17, and came in response to industry demands to find more ways to make legal cannabis available and combat the illegal market.<\/p>\n
“Since the federal legalization of non-medical cannabis, we've been working to support a strong and diverse cannabis industry, shrink the illicit market and keep products out of the hands of children and youth," Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth said in a news release. "Allowing direct delivery to consumers isn't just an advantage retailers have told us is vital to the viability of their sector, it’s also a way we can further our public safety goals.”<\/p>\n
The new delivery rules come almost a year after cannabis stores were allowed to sell non-medical cannabis online.<\/p>\n
People receiving deliveries must be over the age of 19 and may have to show two pieces of identification. But, the person receiving the cannabis does not have to be the person who ordered it or even live in the house where it's delivered to, but will have to provide their name and a signature.<\/p>\n
Another rule change will make it easier for cannabis retailers to hire staff since they will no longer need to meet security verification requirements.<\/p>\n
