5 buildings up to 7 storeys and hundreds of apartments proposed for West Kelowna

A hillside just 370 metres from the Highway 97-Daimler Road intersection in West Kelowna could be the site of 490 apartment units.

A proposal by a numbered company is going to West Kelowna’s Advisory Planning Commission on Wednesday.

While it's described as being part of the Shannon Lake neighbourhood, the hillside at 2741 Auburn Road not only overlooks the highway but Const. Neil Bruce Middle School and an industrial area.

The application shows three buildings at six storeys and two at seven storeys cut into the hillside.

The proposal is for a special “CD” zone for part of the 12.5 hectare property. The zone will be specific to that site so it’s expected the final plans will change before it gets through city council.

The buildings will have underground parking with only 4.5 storeys exposed above ground.

The plans show 320 one-bedroom units and 170 two-bedrooms with a total of 575 parking stalls.
