iN PHOTOS: $15.5M Penticton mansion may be first from Canada sold by Sotheby’s New York

Sterling Manor in Penticton is being prepared for auction at Sotheby’s New York on June 14.

It’s a three bedroom, five bathrooms, 6,391 square foot “modern castle” on 0.35 acres at 581 and 587 Vancouver St., above Penticton Yacht Club.

It’s listed for $15.5 million.

While it’s not on the waterfront, it has a unique view of Okanagan Lake.

“It’s at the very southern tip of the lake so the view is not typical to the valley,” Natalie Benedet, sales rep with Sotheby’s International Realty Canada, told iNFOnews.ca today, June 2. “It’s on the skinny end of the lake so there are very few properties that have the opportunity to be perched there. When you rise in the morning, you look down the channel of the lake with mountain ranges both to your left and your right.

It's built of concrete and steel with finishings predominantly of marble and black walnut, she said.

“A masterclass of architecture and interior design ensure this lofty aspiration is truly met with no expense spared and every imaginable luxury accounted for,” states the real estate listing. “The bespoke vertical entry gate teases at the opulence to come: follow the heated driveway to the extraordinary exterior and multi-award-winning interior design beyond.”

That leads to a rotating vehicle showroom finished in black and green marbles along with a glass elevator in the three-storey house.

Viewings can be booked up until June 8, leading to a live auction on June 14 at Sotheby’s New York.

“The svelte contemporary design of the chef’s kitchen incorporates La Cornue, Sub Zero and Gaggenau technology with effortless elegance. Sleek glass staircases connect each level, where extraordinary finishes from marble to hand-painted wallpaper and crystal light fixtures make art of every-day living,” the listing says.

The house has been on the market for about a year, Benedet said. It will be the first Canadian residential property auctioned at Sothebey’s New York, if the auction goes ahead.

While it is a no reserve auction, meaning there is no minimum bid, the owner gets to review preliminary bids. If those are acceptable, the owner will green light the auction, which will be held live online on June 14.

“It is a bespoke property and, with a property like this, we want to make sure we do a comprehensive marketing plan for the property, which includes the opportunity to be internationally featured by Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions,” Benedet said.
