IKEA ‘plan to order site’ opening in Kelowna next week

Kelowna is getting its own IKEA, sort of, with a new store opening next week.

The “plan to order” site is opening at 1500 Banks Road, April 8, according to a press release from the Swedish home furnishings company.

It isn’t going to be a full-blown maze of furniture displays with a plate of meatballs at the end, but people can make appointments with IKEA experts to plan and order things for their home, as well as immediately purchase a limited range of products that are ready to go.

Folks will be able to get help to plan for kitchen renovations, bedroom rearrangements and refurnishing any room in their home, then order whatever they need.

There’s already a pick-up location near Ellison Lake at 230 Beaver Lake Court.

“We are thrilled to continue our growth in Western Canada where we have built a rich history and meaningful connections with the BC community,” IKEA’s Western Canada market area manager Janet McGowan said in a release.

“We look forward to providing our new neighbours in Kelowna with beautiful, functional and sustainable home furnishings that fit their budget and evolving needs at home.”

It’s going to be the 12th plan and order point in Canada and the second one in B.C. following Abbotsford.

This store is meant to make it easier for people in Thompson-Okanagan to get their fill of IKEA since the closest location is a four-hour drive away.
