A developer is bringing plans for a new neighbourhood back to Kamloops city council after it was denied earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kenna Village neighbourhood, mixing industrial and residential areas together, is proposed to cover 36 hectares just west of the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A divided council denied the developer’s rezoning application earlier this year, and it’s now returning with a pared down version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commercial and industrial area was reduced, while its 1,350 previously-proposed homes<\/a> is now down to 900, according to a staff report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If approved, staff expect it would “significantly accelerate” water infrastructure expansions, estimated to cost $100 million, which would be funded through developer fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s those costs of expanding the city with entirely new neighbourhoods that largely factored into council’s denial of the rezoning application in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vancouver-based development company, Placemark, is eyeing a new data centre in the first phases of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 26, council will consider whether to move the renewed rezoning application along to another public hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
