{"id":8868,"date":"2026-08-09T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inhome\/news\/8868\/in-numbers-construction-of-new-homes-in-b-c-down-significantly-this-year\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T10:00:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T17:00:17","slug":"in-numbers-construction-of-new-homes-in-b-c-down-significantly-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inhome\/news\/8868\/in-numbers-construction-of-new-homes-in-b-c-down-significantly-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"iN NUMBERS: Construction of new homes in B.C. down significantly this year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A single-detached home with a nice garden has been a pipe-dream for many people for a long time, and the number of new homes registered with BC Houing may reflects that fact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A home registered with BC Housing means it&#8217;s officially logged as a new construction project before it goes to the municipal building permit process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Far fewer single-detached homes have been registered and completed this year than the five-year average, and even multi-unit building completions have seen a dip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the numbers from the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/sites\/default\/files\/media\/documents\/New-Homes-Registry-Report-June-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BC Housing report<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>4,146: <\/strong>That\u2019s the five-year average for how many new single-detached homes were registered in B.C. at this point in the year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2,517:<\/strong> That\u2019s how many single-detached homes have been registered in B.C. this year so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>6.2: <\/strong>Per cent. That\u2019s the Central Okanagan\u2019s share of single-detached home construction in B.C.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>22,347:<\/strong> That\u2019s the five-year average for how many homes in multi-unit buildings like duplexes and townhomes are registered in in B.C. at this point in the year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>19,994:<\/strong> That\u2019s how many homes in multi-unit buildings have been registered in B.C. this year so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>36.6:<\/strong> Per cent. That\u2019s Metro Vancouver\u2019s share of single-detached home construction in B.C.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>230:<\/strong> New homes in multi-family buildings have been registered in Central Okanagan this year so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>23:<\/strong> New homes in multi-unit buildings have been registered in Okanagan-Similkameen this year so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>153:<\/strong> New homes in multi-unit buildings have been registered in Thompson-Nicola this year so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>6: <\/strong>New homes in multi-unit
