Body of semi driver recovered from channel beneath Sicamous bridge

The body of the semi driver, whose rig ended up in the channel between Mara and Shuswap Lakes in Sicamous this past weekend, has been recovered.

The driver, and only occupant in the truck, was found deceased by the RCMP’s dive team. Police don’t identify the person.

At around 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, the semi, which was travelling eastbound downhill on the Trans-Canada Highway, hit the west end of the Bruhn Bridge, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Aug. 27.

The rig then crossed the bridge deck and drove through the south side railing, plunging into the channel below.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The crash caused significant damage to the bridge deck and was closed for some time until it was made safe, RCMP said.

Anyone has any information on the crash is asked to call Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878.
